Childhood Sleep Apnea and Snoring

Snoring may not seem like a big deal, but doctors say it can be a symptom of much more serious health problems, especially in children.

Seven-year-old Jessa Geideman of Mesa used to have an assortment of ailments.

"Stomach aches and headaches," Jessa said. "My head used to hurt all the time."

"You suffer as a parent," said Jaime Geideman, Jessa's mother. "Seeing your child suffer and not being able to explain it is hard."

Mouth Breathing and it's Ill Effects

Mouth Breathing from breathing.com

Nose Breathing

Breathing through the nose has many benefits. Breathing through the mouth, many negatives. There are some researchers who believe that mouth breathing and associated hyperventilation causes or exacerbates asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease, and many other medical problems. It makes some folks look dull witted or slightly unconscious.

Mouth Breathing

Note that improper breathing can start as an infant.

Poor low tongue posture develops as a result of mouth breathing, along with a tall vaulted palate.
